Every new year, someone will pose the question: “so what’s your resolution?”
It’s almost a given that at one stage ‘getting fit’ or ‘losing weight’ will have found its way into your list. But how often do you keep to it? And, if not, why?
There’s no doubt that being fitter and maintaining a healthy weight are both keys to a better quality of life. There are also plenty of places you can find health tips on how to achieve these sensible goals. So, why is it such a struggle with these every year? Here are a few suggestions on how you can do better this year:
1. Stay focused
The first step you should take in any fitness or health plan is to speak to a personal trainer. Your trainer can not only give you a realistic assessment as to what you are capable of achieving, but also help you set targets and goals by which you can measure your progress. Ask your trainer to write down your target goals, so you can tick them off once they’re achieved. When it seems as though you’re having a bad day, or not getting where you think you should be, your trainer can get you back on track by providing encouragement and support, as well as some useful health tips.
2. Be realistic about what you hope to achieve
No one can develop the perfect body overnight: it’s physically impossible to get to peak fitness in a week. We also shouldn’t expect to look like our hero or heroine. Patience and perseverance are the keys here. If you want long-term benefits, you’ll need to put in the long-term effort.
3. Reward yourself
Remind yourself how well you’re doing by checking your list of targets achieved, and how close you are to the final goal. Whether it’s completing a half marathon, dropping a couple of dress sizes, or developing better upper-body strength, you deserve a reward once you’ve achieved your goal. A mini-break? A new outfit? That must-see movie? Just don’t go overboard! But even if you do, that’s no reason to give up. Simply ask your lifestyle coach for help to get you back on track – and maybe some healthy recipes as an added treat!
With a healthy body, you’re better equipped to deal with illnesses as annoying as the common cold, or as severe as cancer. It’s also known that good physical health helps with issues such as stress or depression. So if you’re ready, get in touch with me today about how to achieve a healthier, fitter you this year.
