One of the easiest ways to develop healthy eating habits is always having your fridge stocked with nutritional foods choices. Try to have ingredients for some tasty yet wholesome foods to either grab and go or throw together into a nourishing meal. This will help avoid the dreaded junk food cravings when we’re tired or not making the best decisions when we’re in a rush. Check out my top 5 go-to foods to keep in the fridge!

1. Eggs (Hard Boiled or Fresh)

Eggs can offer the perfect quick dish and they are great when they have been sourced locally. Eggs are highly packed with nutrients and high-quality protein but have a low calorie rate. Half a dozen hard-boiled eggs can keep in your fridge for a week. Try keeping a mix of hard boiled and fresh so you can chose how to eat them depending on how much time you have. The boiled ones also travel (fairly) well.

2. Fresh veggies

It’s a great idea to have a variety of fresh vegetables on hand for snacks, salads and other quick meals. Capsicum, broccoli, carrots, green beans, and other basics are worth being chopped up at the beginning of the week and kept in an air-tight container in the fridge so they’re ready to eat.

3. Berries

In comparison to other fruits, berries have relatively low in sugar, so they are a great addition to your fridge if sugar is a concern for you. They are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals and also can be thrown together with other foods easily like yoghurt (coconut or dairy) and all kinds of protein shakes and smoothies.

4. Yoghurt

Any yoghurt that’s low in added sugar (or completely without it) is .a good choice! Yogurt can be a great snack due to the satiating proteins (makes you feel fuller for longer) and probiotics (improved gut health) to your body.

5. Lean proteins

A wide variety of ready-to-eat lean proteins form huge parts of all healthy recipes. Some include: cooked chicken breast, beans, and grilled turkey burgers. In the right portions, these protein-rich foods are healthy sources of energy and nutrition.

You can easily prepare a meal from the above foods swiftly, especially after a hectic day.
