We all know that looking after ourselves is important if we want to keep up with our busy personal and work lives. Whether you’re a high-powered professional, a parent with hefty family demands, or something in between (or possibly a combination of all of these), it’s also true that self-maintenance can seem like an impossible task to fit into an already full timetable. I can promise you that it’s not though, and the key is getting your morning routine in order – something that starts the night before. So if you want to develop a killer morning routine that will help you overcome any challenge that comes your way, follow these top hacks.

1. Prepare the night before

As I noted above, this is the key first step in hacking your morning routine as it allows you to hit the ground running. This step should be the last thing you do before winding down for the evening and can be broken down into two parts:

– Organise the next day’s to-do list: focus on at least two to three key tasks that must be accomplished before worrying about smaller tasks.

– Pack your bag with everything you’ll need for the coming day: this includes breakfast, lunch and healthy snacks, as well as your exercise clothes. If you’ve got kids that aren’t old enough to organise themselves yet, you can save more time by packing their bags too.

2. Get to sleep early

This might sound hard to do but if you start winding down a little early (and this includes disciplining yourself to stay away from all electronic devices for at least 30 minutes before bed) you’ll find you fall asleep much quicker. Try banning electronic devices from your bedroom and get into bed at least half an hour before you want to go to sleep. You can then do something relaxing, like reading a book.

3. Avoid using electronic devices for the first hour after waking

Go on, I challenge you. This means not checking your social media feeds, not checking your emails and not checking your phone messages. And don’t worry, anything that’s clamouring for your attention waited all night so one more hour won’t do any harm.
