Nutrition/Diets/Eating… Searching for diet advice online can lead you to conflicting ideas, fads and frankly quite harmful advice. Because there’s SO MUCH information out there, it’s easy to get bogged down in the details… I’ve put together a few key mistakes that many of my new clients discover they’re making, all while thinking they’re on the right track.
1. Skipping breakfast
Breakfast is known as the most important meal of the day for a reason. Some people think that skipping breakfast is an easy way to cut calories from their day, but in reality you may just end up consuming calories elsewhere. When you skip breakfast you’re more likely to snack before lunch, which could lead you to consume unhealthier foods, and more calories in the long run.
2. Moving between fad diets
Fad diets can be misleading. While they may offer a promise of weight loss, it could be an unhealthy way of doing so. Crash dieting, for example, can lead to people failing to consume the calories needed to feel energised and healthy. In the long run, fad diets can be more damaging and harder to maintain.
3. Focusing only on your weight
Looking at the numbers on the scale can be motivating, especially when you see them going down. But it can also have the opposite effect. Dieting is not just about weight loss, but about maintaining a healthy weight and keeping your body strong and well. If you’ve been working out or exercising then some of your weight will be attributed to muscle. Make sure your focus is on being strong and healthy.
4. Drinking too many calories
Watching what you eat is one thing, but many people forget to watch what they drink. Hidden calories can be found in everything from milky coffees to sugar-filled flavoured water. Watch what you drink to ensure you get your daily calorie intake from healthy food, rather than empty calories in drinks. You might want to take a read of another blog post I just published on some great low sugar drink alternatives.
