When life gets busy, it can be hard to find the time to keep active, but it isn’t impossible. Making small, healthy changes to your daily routine can help you make time to move your body. Below are five health hacks to get you started:

1) Get up earlier

Resist the temptation to hit snooze when your alarm goes off in the morning and get up. Not only will getting up even just ten minutes earlier give you enough time for a quick bodyweight workout, but the extra time will also help you feel less stressed at the start of the day.

2) Get off the bus or train a few stops earlier

Spend 10 or 20 minutes less on public transport every day and use this time to walk more. You should be aiming to do 10,000 steps a day, but while this may sound like a lot, it is easy to achieve by making changes like this to your daily routine.

3) Park further away

If you have to drive, park further away from your destination and walk the rest of the way. Even if you simply park in one of the bays furthest from the supermarket when you do the weekly shop, it all adds up and the extra steps will still bring you closer to your daily goal.

4) Swap lunch/coffee dates for walks

Getting outside and being active isn’t just great for our physical health, but for our overall wellness as well. Replacing sedentary lunch and coffee dates with a walk, especially if there’s somewhere scenic near you, will re-energise you in the middle of the day and help you avoid the 4pm slump.

5) Take productivity breaks and perform a quick exercise

If you’re sitting for long periods of time, one of the most important health tips is to take breaks regularly. Every 40 minutes, get up from your computer and do 10 bodyweight squats or take a walk around the block with a few walking lunges thrown in.

These little extra minutes all add up. Remember, start small and achievable and build from there.
